Qantas Boss Alan Joyce Warns Of Further Travel Chaos As Sydney Ground Staff Prepare To Strike

Qantas boss Alan Joyce warns of further travel chaos as Sydney ground staff prepare to strike

Qantas boss Alan Joyce has warned of further travel chaos as Sydney ground staff prepare to strike.

The airline has cancelled 60 flights on Monday and Tuesday, affecting about 10,000 passengers.

The industrial action is the latest in a series of disruptions to Qantas services in recent months. The airline has been plagued by flight cancellations and delays, as well as lost baggage and long queues.

Joyce said the strike would cause "significant disruption" to Qantas's operations. He urged passengers to check the airline's website for the latest information on their flights.

"We understand that this is a frustrating time for our customers, and we apologise for the inconvenience," Joyce said.

The Transport Workers' Union (TWU) is representing the ground staff who are taking industrial action. The union is demanding a pay rise of 5% and improved working conditions.

TWU national secretary Michael Kaine said the ground staff were "at breaking point".

"They are working long hours in difficult conditions, and they are not being paid fairly," Kaine said.

Qantas has rejected the union's demands, saying that they are "unaffordable".

The airline said it was "disappointed" that the TWU had decided to take industrial action.

"We have been negotiating with the TWU for months, and we have made a number of offers that we believe are fair and reasonable," Qantas said.

The strike is expected to cause significant disruption to Qantas's operations. Passengers are advised to check the airline's website for the latest information on their flights.
