Blackburn Pitched Six Seasons with Athletics Organization
The Oakland Athletics have traded right-handed starting pitcher Paul Blackburn to the New York Mets, ending his six-season tenure with the organization. Blackburn, who was the Athletics' longest-tenured player, made 103 starts and appeared in 124 games for the team.
The 29-year-old Blackburn had a 4.12 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in 542.2 innings pitched for the Athletics. He also struck out 480 batters and walked 162. Blackburn was a key member of the Athletics' rotation in recent years, pitching in both the starting and bullpen roles.
In a statement, Athletics general manager David Forst said, "Paul has been a valuable member of our organization for the past six seasons. He is a great teammate and competitor, and we wish him all the best in New York."
