Oakland County Sees Second Motorcycle Fatality in Two Days

Mourning Family Remembers Man Killed in Motorcycle Crash

Jacob Smith died June 30 after a motorcycle crash north of Manito where he, Heydi, and four of his seven children lived. As Heydi mourns, she looks back on the fateful night of his death.

For the second time in less than two days, a motorcyclist has been killed in a traffic crash in Oakland County. This most recent incident was reported at approximately 2:40 a.m. A motorcyclist going upward of 130 mph down a street in Los Angeles' West Hills neighborhood Thursday afternoon died after crashing into another vehicle.

Men are significantly more likely to lose their lives in a motorcycle accident. In fact, while 5,112 men died in motorcycle accidents in 2020, just 460 females lost their lives during that same year.

The infographic highlights a few key motorcycle fatality trends for 2021:

  • The majority of motorcyclist fatalities occurred on urban roads (66%).
  • Most fatalities occurred in good weather (94%).
  • More fatalities occurred during daytime (50%).
  • Most crashes involved other vehicles (80%).
