Chennedy Carter Waived by Los Angeles Sparks
Late-Season Moves Shake Up WNBA Landscape
Carter Seeks New Home After Brief Stint in LA
Chennedy Carter, a talented guard who has played for three WNBA teams in her young career, is once again on the market after being waived by the Los Angeles Sparks. The move comes as a surprise, as Carter had been a key contributor for the Sparks since being acquired in a trade with the Atlanta Dream in June 2022.
Carter, a first-round pick in the 2020 WNBA Draft, has averaged 10.6 points and 3.7 assists per game over her career. She has shown flashes of brilliance, but has also struggled with consistency and injuries.
The Sparks, who finished 13-21 last season and missed the playoffs, are in a rebuilding mode. They have already traded away several key players, including All-Star forward Nneka Ogwumike. Carter's release is another sign that the Sparks are looking to get younger and more athletic.
